Maddy

Maddy has been waiting for her forever family for more than a year, and we honestly don’t understand how this sweet girl is still waiting.

Over the past year, we’ve had the privilege of watching her grow into a loving, playful, goofy and incredibly devoted companion.

Maddy loves being with her people. She’ll follow you around the house, curl up for cuddles, hand out kisses and happily settle in for a lazy day. But she’s just as ready when it’s time for an adventure. She loves car rides, being outside, exploring creeks and rivers, playing in the water and experiencing new things with someone she trusts.

She’s also been busy learning quite a bit along the way. Maddy completed the PAWS training program in Orofino and has continued working on her skills and confidence, including agility and confidence-building work with Snake River Four Paws. She is crate trained, potty trained, walks beautifully on leash and rides well in the car.

Maddy has done well with other dogs, cats, children, horses and even chickens. She can be playful and silly with her animal friends, and we think another friendly, confident dog could be a great companion for her.

She is more than worth the extra effort.

Once you’re part of Maddy’s world, you get the affectionate, playful, adventure-loving girl who wants to be part of whatever you’re doing. You get the cuddles, the kisses, the goofy moments, the loyal shadow following you from room to room and the satisfaction of knowing that her trust actually means something.

After more than a year in our care, Maddy doesn’t need someone to feel sorry for her. She just needs the right person to finally see her.

Maddy came into our care in June 2025 after she was found in Benewah County with Pearl and Sansa. She was underweight and had porcupine quills embedded in her face. We don’t know what she went through before she was found, but we know how far she’s come since.

With care, patience, and time in the PAWS training program in Orofino, Maddy has grown healthier and more confident. Now she’s ready for the next part of her story: a home of her own. ❤️

Maddy can still be reserved when meeting new people, particularly in unfamiliar situations. She may not be the dog who runs up and throws herself into a stranger’s lap five minutes after meeting them, and that’s okay. Her future adopter may need to spend a little extra time getting to know her through more than one meet and greet or outing before she’s ready to show them all of the Maddy we know and love.

Maddy can be pretty shy when she first meets you, but given some time and patience, she evolves into an extremely loyal and loving partner in crime.

Maddy’s ideal home is one where she can truly become part of the family. She would love people who enjoy including their dog in everyday life, whether that means heading out for an adventure, going for a car ride, exploring the outdoors, or spending a lazy afternoon together at home.

A friendly, confident dog would be a wonderful bonus and could help Maddy continue building confidence, although the right match is most important. She has also done well with cats, children, horses, and chickens.

Most of all, Maddy needs a family who understands that relationships don’t always happen in a single meeting. She may need a couple of visits or outings to really get comfortable with a potential adopter. Give her that little bit of extra time, and you may just end up with one of the most loving, loyal companions you could ask for.
