Frankie: He Wandered Out of the Woods

Frankie - Idaho Animal Rescue Network

Today, Frankie, or “Frank” as he’s become known around his foster home, is ready to find the family he’s been waiting for.

If you’ve ever met Frank, you’ll understand why he has such a fan club.

With his handsome underbite, goofy grin, and legendary afternoon zoomies, Frank has a way of wrapping everyone around his paw almost instantly. Estimated to be around two years old and weighing in at a sturdy 17.6 pounds, he’s equal parts comedian, cuddle bug, and loyal best friend.

Frank is incredibly food-motivated and eager to please. He already knows several basic commands, sits politely for treats, and responds well to “kennel.” He’s crate trained and appreciates a good nap almost as much as he enjoys a good zoomie session.

Blankets, dog beds, couches, your bed… if it’s soft and comfortable, Frank is all in.

One of the things his foster family loves most about him is how well he gets along with everyone. Frank is wonderful with kids, cats, and other dogs. His only fault might be that he occasionally forgets not everyone wants to participate in his NASCAR-inspired zoomie races around the house and yard. He means absolutely no harm. He’s simply very enthusiastic about life.

Frank also considers himself the official neighborhood security officer and takes his responsibility of announcing the mailman’s arrival quite seriously. Like many recently neutered males, he has also been known to do a little indoor marking from time to time. The good news is that the behavior has already been improving, and he’ll be heading to his new home with a couple of stylish belly bands just in case he needs a little reminder while he continues polishing his manners.

The ideal home for Frank will have a securely fenced yard where he can stretch his legs and chase his beloved tennis ball, a family that appreciates goofy and affectionate dogs, plenty of toys, treats, and cuddles, and people committed to helping him continue becoming the best version of himself. Apartment life probably isn’t his style. Frank prefers a little room to run.

Most of all, Frank is looking for what every rescue dog deserves: a family to call his own.

The little dog who wandered out of the woods at McCroskey State Park has come a long way. What began as a mystery on a hiking trail has become a story of second chances, kindness, and hope.

Now all that’s missing is the happy ending.

Frank is loving, hilarious, affectionate, and more than ready to find his forever people and a place where he can chase tennis balls for the rest of his days.

If you think Frank might be your perfect match, applications can be submitted at IdahoRescue.org.

Frank is currently being fostered in Lewiston, Idaho, right on the Washington border, where he’s patiently waiting for the family who will finally make his journey complete.
